Today’s Beatles Day —

Love Me Do considered key Beatles song
Also interesting for Beatles fans, is “Love Me Do” and “P.S. I Love You” are the only two Lennon & McCartney songs that John Lennon’s estate and Paul McCartney wholly own; according to an EMI record company history that explains how “the Beatles’ first two (released) recordings were part of their own ‘in-house’ publishers.”
In turn, Ringo Starr explained during interviews for the Beatles Anthology that: “The first record, ‘Love Me Do’ — for me, that was more important than anything else. That first piece of plastic. You can’t believe how great that was. It was so wonderful. We were on a record!”
The Beatles Anthology also explains how “Love Me Do” was one of the first Lennon-McCartney songs, with the principal lyrics written by McCartney sometime between 1958-1959.
In turn, Lennon wrote the “middle eight” of Love Me Do; while the anthology noted that “intrinsically it’s a song based around two simple chords: G7 and C, before moving to D for Lennon’s “middle eight.”
The Anthology also explains hot it “first profiles Lennon playing a bluesy dry ‘dockside harmonica’ riff, and then features Lennon and McCartney on joint lead vocals, including an Everly Brothers style harmonizing during the beseeching ‘please’ before McCartney sings the unaccompanied vocal line on the song’s title phrase.”
“Love Me Do,” features these lyrics from its first cut in 1962:
“Love, love me do.

I’ll always be true,
So please, love me do.
Whoa, love me do.
Love, love me do.

I’ll always be true,

Whoa, love me do.

Beatles fans called to Liverpool
Meanwhile, beatles-unlimited.com has announced that “The Beatles will be remembered in 2012 in a year-long season of music, film and verse in their home city of Liverpool, England. The 12-month program of cultural events will be focus on the 50th anniversary of the birth of the most enduringly popular music band. This year marks the half-century that has passed since the formation of the Beatles.”
For instance, in June, “The Two of Us: The Lennon and McCartney Songbook” will see the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra perform the band’s songs over two evenings.”
“We’re delighted to be playing our part in this special Beatles anniversary, paying our tribute to the four Liverpool lads whose music continues to have an extraordinary impact around the world.” Explained Michael Eakin, chief executive of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra on beatles-unlimited.com recently.
Also, on August 18, Hulme Hall in Port Sunlight, will host a musical event celebrating the date that Ringo Starr made his Beatles debut. The next day, August 19, marks the 50-year anniversary of the band’s first gig at The Cavern,” beatles-unlimited.com added.

Dieci anni fa, il 29 novembre 2001, a Beverly Hills, moriva George Harrison. Tra le tante iniziative che oggi lo ricordano merita menzione il concerto-tributo che si terrà il 29 novembre al Cavern club di Liverpool con The Rebels, la prima band di Harrison. Ma c’è n’è una che farà contenti i tanti beatlesiani d’Italia: negli studi di registrazione Logic Studios di Milano è possibile incidere una canzone dell’eclettico “scarafaggio”
